Straight Lines Experiment
What is happened in this investigation?
Light travels in straight lines, unless something acts on it to bend it. In the investigation you will notice that the holes in the paper need to be lined up so that they are in a straight line.We cannot see around corners. The mirror works as a reflector and directs the light on a different angle, but the light still travels straight allowing it to pass through into the next hole and out the other side, hitting the object. Reversing Arrow ExperimentWhen the arrow is moved to a particular distance behind the glass, it looks like it reversed itself. Anytime that light passes from one medium, or material, into another, it refracts or appears to bend. The glass of water works like a magnifying glass - when the light rays hits the water it bends inwards towards the centre. When the light rays come out through the glass they cross over at the focal point and they switch sides, resulting in the arrow to look like it is reversed.
